Hey all. Here’s a clip of me and my Montreal Classic Rock Band Thick As Thieves playing at the great West Island club “Clydes” sometime in 2009. Just for the record, I take a lot of liberties with this solo and believe me when I say it’s NOT note-for-note! When doing a solo I mix some of the original with some of my “stuff” which I find works best for me. This may not be the way others play it, but I’ve been doing this tune a long time and it works for me and the audience…which is what is important. Plus it’s fun to just let it rip on occasion…:)

Spice Up Your Standard Guitar Chords With Sweet Sounding Open Strings!!

Hi all. Thanks to those who commented on the last lesson. I had some great feedback and it was greatly appreciated. There will be more Chord Fun coming your way so stay tuned. Actually, this lesson is also chord related…but with a twist! And the twist is…open strings. I first heard Alex Lifeson of Rush utilize open strings back in the ’80′s and suffice it to say, I just loved the open sounding quality it gave the chords he was using. Since then, I have used this concept a lot and still do to this day. It is a very effective guitar addition to your repertoire of skills and if not overdone, can add a sweet surprise to anyone’s use of chords.
